New Canopies Transform Southfields Park into an All-Weather Community Hub

Southfields Park in Loughborough has unveiled two new covered structures as part of Charnwood Borough Council’s ongoing investment in high-quality public spaces. The upgrades aim to boost year-round use of one of the town’s most popular green areas, already known for its open grasslands, play facilities, skatepark and outdoor gym. Designed and installed by Streetspace Structures, the new canopies provide much-needed sheltered areas that support community wellbeing and encourage active outdoor lifestyles.

The upgrades include a 52-metre ORION Barrel Vault Canopy for events and gatherings, along with a striking ORION Conic Canopy that replaces the park’s unused bandstand. Built with durable steel frames and UV-resistant fabric, the new structures complement recent improvements to lighting, paths and entrances, further enhancing the park for residents and visitors.
