Trinity Academy Leeds, West Yorkshire
Part of the award-winning Trinity Multi-Academy Trust, Trinity Academy Leeds is a thriving new 11 – 16 secondary school located in the east of the city. Opened in 2021, the academy has quickly become one of Leeds’ most popular schools, embodying the trust’s ethos of high aspiration and inclusion through its vision for every student.
The school provides an ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum which is enhanced with fantastic facilities across its modern campus. The site is equipped with exceptional teaching, sports and performing arts facilities, reflecting the academy’s commitment to delivering a first-class educational environment for all learners.
To enhance its outdoor learning and recreation spaces, Trinity Academy Leeds partnered with Streetspace Structures to deliver two large-scale tensile membrane canopy installations. Designed to expand all-weather provision for social, dining and physical activity, the project forms a key part of the school’s continued investment in student wellbeing and high-quality facilities.
The first structure, a 51m x 12m ORION Barrel Vault Fabric Canopy, was installed adjacent to the school’s Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). This extensive covered space allows physical education and sports activities to take place year-round, while also providing a versatile area for outdoor events and enrichment programmes.
The second installation comprised two 15m x 11.5m ORION Barrel Vault Canopies within the central courtyard, designed to create flexible outdoor dining and social spaces. The clean architectural lines and open, light-filled form of the canopies, integrate seamlessly with the contemporary building design.

Both canopy types feature free-standing powder-coated steel frames, engineered and manufactured to BS EN 1090 EXC2 standards. The architectural tensile membrane roofs provide exceptional durability and UV protection. The structures include aluminium guttering and downpipes, structural foundations and reinstatement to existing surfaces, ensuring long-term performance and visual cohesion across the campus.
Fully compliant with Building Regulations, the installations are supported by a 25-year structural warranty and 15-year tensile membrane warranty, underlining the robustness and longevity of Streetspace systems.
Together, the new canopies provide Trinity Academy Leeds with much-needed, high-quality covered space. Streetspace were proud to work on this transformative project, supporting the school in its bid to maximise space for all pupils.
