Green school awards showcase passion for the environment

Students helping to make Kent a greener county had their initiatives showcased at an event staged at the Ashford International Hotel.
Twenty eight schools from every corner of Kent were named as district winners at the annual Green School Awards with seven of these named as county champions at the climax to the morning.
Streetspace played a leading role in the event with Simon Dolby from the company co-hosting the awards celebration.
Among the top awards were Wye School’s Nature Club which was named the county’s overall health and wellbeing champion and Chatham Grammar School, which was presented with the top recycling award. The student team from Chiddingstone Primary School, Sevenoaks was named as overall nature conservation champion with St Mary’s Island, Chatham, winning the overall clear air for schools award. The top award for the Kent’s Green Champions went to the team of students at Dover College.
Winning projects will be added to a best practice booklet which will be circulated to the 550 schools in Kent and available digitally.
