Situated in the ground and first floors of the Bermondsey Works apartment complex in Rotherhithe New Road, John Keats Primary School is a brand-new school serving the London Borough of Southwark. With capacity for over 400 students, the school has beautiful external spaces designed by Innes Associates. These provide plenty of covered outdoor areas that allow the students to spend time outside in any weather.

Playcubed, a company specialising in landscape construction for schools, contracted Streetspace to provide two striking outdoor teaching shelters along with bin and cycle storage units from our metroSTOR range. The shelters have box-profile steel roofing, with all steel frame and trim components coated to RAL7016 Anthracite Grey. Iroko hardwood cladding panels match with the decking beneath shelters as well as planters and other fittings around the site.

The teaching shelters provide space where groups of students can learn out in the fresh air, as well as being available as covered social space during break times. The value of students being able to be out in the fresh air even in poor weather cannot be underestimated – it has significant impact on physical and mental health, as well as student outcomes.
