Luton Sixth Form College, Bedfordshire
With its highly impressive student role increasing, Luton Sixth Form College in Bedfordshire was not finding the provision of adequate dining facilities during the lunch period an easy task. Having already committed substantial sums of money to building a new teaching block during 2014/15, the level of funding required for a traditional build dining hall extension was not available.
The college outdoor dining terrace was popular with students during fine weather but an exposed position made this unusable for much of the year. The College Leadership Team felt that this terrace area was under-utilised and considering its location between the main dining hall and the staff dining area, it was an obvious area to develop.
The structural glazing contractors of Streetspace ZONE enclosed canopy has provided a perfect solution for Luton Sixth Form College, complete with an opaque polycarbonate roof, double glazed curtain walling to match the adjacent buildings, lights and radiant heaters have created an attractive area that can be made use of with genuine year round comfort.
“With their Zone concept, Streetspace have helped us to create additional quality dining and showcase space at LSFC at a very affordable cost. With matching glazing, the new structure fits in beautifully with the style and finishes of our College buildings and we can control the heating and ventilation to maintain a comfortable environment all year round which was an essential requirement for the utility of the area.
We have approximately 2800 students on roll and achieving an additional 80 seats by enclosing the external terrace area has eased pressure on the dining facilities considerably and the students really enjoy the space. Work has been completed to a high standard and we would have no hesitation in recommending Streetspace to other Schools and Colleges with a similar requirement’’
