ScopeORION Bespoke Hypar Fabric Canopy

Forming a key part of the radical design of the new Skinners Kent Academy buildings built under the BSF Programme, an all-weather cover to the curved amphitheatre could not be a merely functional canopy; it would have to complement the overall design theme to be successful. This is why the architects decided to work with Streetspace in the early stages of the project, and the hypar concept adopted as a suitably stunning structure for the setting.

The project requirement initially was for a shade fabric which didn’t present any particular issues in terms of engineering. However, when this changed to needing an all-weather waterproof structure, this was another ball game altogether. With the considerable clear span requirements, the canopy dimensions were fine-tuned until the unique Streetspace ORION Hypar bracing system could be utilised. Now the stunning amphitheatre structure is complete it has to be said that the bracing actually adds considerable design value.
