ProjectTrevelyan Middle School
ScopeZONE Glazed Dining Hall

Forming one of four schools under the Pioneer Educational Trust, Trevelyan Middle School is located in the historic market town of Windsor, Berkshire, along the River Thames. Providing education to pupils aged 9-13, the school has undergone many changes since its conception as the New Windsor Council School in 1930, becoming an academy in November 2016.

With the Pioneer Educational Trust Leadership Team seeking to improve the dining facilities at Trevelyan Middle School, Streetspace were invited to outline proposed project solutions. Through a process of initial consultations with subsequent site visits, the Streetspace team were able to gain an essential understanding of the trust’s vision, and their ambitions to implement an effective long-term solution for dining facilities.

In-line with this vision, detailed design proposals for a ZONE Glazed Dining Hall were developed. Following a tender process with Everything FM, planning permission was secured alongside this to fast track the overall process for the school. With construction commencing in April 2023, the 5-month programme was completed during the 2023 school summer holidays in August. This was one of two design and build projects for the Pioneer Educational Trust in 2023, with a MUGA canopy completed for Upton Court Grammar School.

The design flexibility of the ZONE platform enabled the structure to integrate successfully with the surrounding buildings. Enabling works for the project included the installation of DDA-compliant ramps, steps and handrails to assist with access to the facility.
