Streetspace delivered a full street furniture package for Royal Mail’s brand new mail sorting centre, working with John Sisk & Son to realise the project architect’s designs for cycle shelters, motorbike shelters, a smoking shelter, and a glass roofed entrance canopy.

CENTAUR CL semi-enclosed bicycle shelters and CENTAUR ST cycle stands provide storage for 60 bikes in a compound close to the building entrance, conveniently sited for staff. Further models of the same shelter are installed, without racks, to provide a covered area for parking motorcycles and scooters. Helmet lockers are also provided.

A bespoke, glass roof barrel vault entrance canopy provides shelter for users of the building’s main entrance. Satin opaque glazing is used, which can reduce the frequency at which cleaning is required. An additional challenge was that the canopy had to be mounted to the steelwork of the access bridge leading to the main entrance, necessitating additional structural engineering liaison.
