Rednock School, Dursley, Gloucestershire
Streetspace has reached project completion on this set of TRITON Maxx steel frame canopies for the Rednock School in Dursley, Gloucestershire. In 2009, the school underwent a site-wide refurbishment as part of an eco-friendly development by architectural practice cube_design, including a sedum green roof system to the main school building, solar panels, a biomass boiler and a fully integrated Sustainable Drainage System. The design of the new school received a BREEAM excellent rating and was shortlisted for the South West Built Environment Awards.
Utilising 3 predetermined areas on the school grounds with existing benches, located to the rear of the main school building and drama hall, Rednock School had ambitions to create covered space for social activities and outdoor dining. A consultation with the school’s Senior Leadership Team and subsequent site visits enabled the Streetspace team to assess the school’s requirements and secure crucial insight into their vision for the project.
Design proposals were developed for 3no. TRITON Maxx playground canopies, alongside a draft programme of works for installation during the school summer holidays. Designed with a multiwall polycarbonate roof type, a blue polyester powder coating to the steel frame of the structure coordinated with the colours of the school’s emblem, with aluminium gutters and downpipes finished to match.
With planning permission secured, the project was handed over to the Streetspace construction team in May 2023 and delivered on schedule for the start of the new school year. The completed package included design, specification and manufacture, as well as enabling works and installation. The availability of covered outdoor space ensures pupils at Rednock School can now enjoy the benefits of social and dining space during break and lunchtime periods, protected from exposure to UV rays and inclement weather.
