The Marlborough C of E School, Woodstock

Located in Woodstock in the heart of rural Oxfordshire, The Marlborough C of E School is an academy catering for over 1000 pupils. The school’s 10-acre site provides a huge area for the students, but the school had very limited dining facilities internally and very few covered sheltered areas externally, meaning that in bad weather students often had to take refuge in classrooms and corridors.

The dining hall opened onto a pleasant landscaped courtyard space, so the school approached a number of providers for proposals for creating a covered space. Nicky Ward, the school’s Business Manager was impressed with Streetspace’s approach from the outset: “The team’s communication was really good and when we first met their representative Barry, he had some great ideas and could see and understand the vision that I had for the space and type of canopy I wanted. The quote was easy to understand and the image provided was excellent to show Governors how the money was being spent.”

Our 15.0m x 6.0m Triton maxx GL canopy has a glulam timber frame with a polycarbonate roof that allows maximum light transmission through the canopy. The timber frame helps the canopy to blend in with the surrounding landscape, whilst creating a warm and inviting feel to the inside of the canopy.

Nicky commented: “Students made use of the canopy from the first day they came back after the Easter holidays. It has been a really popular area for students of all ages to meet and eat. The canopy is not only really well made and sturdy, it looks great.”

The school deemed the project so successful that they have they subsequently commissioned a second canopy to create a second outdoor dining area in a different part of the playground. This time they selected a steel framed Triton maxx canopy coated to match the adjacent building’s colour scheme. Polycarbonate windbreak cladding protects students from the prevailing wind that blows across the playing fields.
