The Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe

The Royal Grammar School High Wycombe is a selective grammar school for boys aged 11-18 situated in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire that achieved Academy status in February 2011. As a state school it does not charge student fees but they must pass an entrance exam (The 11+). Facilities are above average and the Oxbridge entry is exceptional. For the last twenty years the school has produced top class exam results surpassing many of its fee-paying competitors.  With a capacity of about 1370 boys aged between 11 and 18, it is highly regarded by bodies such as OFSTED, which gave it a Grade 1 ranking in every area of its last inspection in 2008.

The school identified dead space in front of a pre-existing building adjacent to an under-used overflow car park and our design team devised a bespoke structure that could accommodate lockers within it.

The enclosure offered the compliant shelter the school were looking for and cleverly created additional usable space with integral decking fitted into the steel frame of the canopy.  The configuration was complex but our expert team were able to produce CGI renders of the concept so the school could envisage the benefits and approve the design before committing to construction and installation.

The completed design featured all the qualities associated with our superior Triton steel framed canopies, modified with special features for increased functionality and extra standout. A treated soft wood panel at the outer end provided additional weather protection and a light and contemporary finish complemented by the JB Antislip soft wood classic decking.  PPC RAL7011 rainwater and roof cladding trims added the final architectural detailing to the project.

With Streetspace completing the groundworks and hard landscaping in a single overall package, the school were able to save time and money. They avoided the unnecessary delays often associated with third party contractors, who can be hard to source, costly and not fully equipped to understand the technical requirements of an installation. With the correct preparation in place and a purpose-built design that had been constructed off-site, our knowledgeable site team were able to deliver, install and complete the project; on time and with minimal disruption.
