Midhurst Rother College, Sussex

Streetspace have provided high-quality covered areas for many schools within United Learning’s portfolio, and Midhurst Rother College is no exception. Since 2014, we have worked in several areas around the school and in 2019 we completed the final phase of an enclosed and covered dining area at the front of the school.

We installed Orion Conic Tensile Membrane Canopies, which create a striking feature as well as providing large areas of cover. In this case, the canopies have fixed edge tensile membranes that discharge rainwater into integrated guttering. The straight edges of this design enable multiple units to be joined together to create one large canopy.

The final phase of the project also included installation of toughened glass cladding panels to the external elevation of the area, which protect the students from wind and rain blowing into the area. With significant increases in pupil numbers, the canopy has been invaluable to the school in providing an additional space where students can sit down and eat, rather than congregating in corridors and circulation areas.
