Increasing student numbers were causing serious pressure on the facilities of the Outstanding rated OneSchool Global Maidstone campus, with a serious lack of dining space and no covered outside areas leaving many pupils confined to classrooms and corridors when the weather was poor.

Streetspace installed a 19.0m x 12.0m Orion Barrelvault tensile membrane canopy in the playground area between the school buildings and the MUGA, including a dropped gable end to keep out as much weather as possible, and integrated guttering connected to the drainage system to keep the area as dry as possible. The whole project was completed within a one week half term holiday.

As well as providing a large area for dining, the school have also found the canopy invaluable for assemblies, concerts and other breaktime activities such as table tennis and table football. And with OneSchool’s ethos of Self-Directed Learning, the canopy area is also a popular place for students to work through for all but the coldest months of the year.
