Return to The Regis School

Following two previous successful projects, a dining hall extension in 2015 and a canopy installation in 2020, Streetspace were delighted to be invited back to the Regis School, a large secondary school in Bognor Regis, to install a second canopy, further extending dining and social spaces for their students.

During 2020 Streetspace worked with the Regis School to install an ORION Barrelvault canopy helping to provide additional covered outdoor space for the students to use. On our return in 2021, a 15m x 16m ORION Barrelvault tensile membrane canopy was installed adjacent to and complimenting the existing structure to further extend the covered outdoor dining and social space. The aesthetically pleasing steel frame canopy provides a spacious clearspan area giving the students ample room for their lunch and social breaks.

“The dining space has been in use for some months now and we have found it to be a comfortable environment, well suited to dining-type uses and very popular with students. Above all, we have been able to reduce pressure on other social spaces within the building and maintain a safe environment for all concerned.

In addition, we have found that this space is not only useful for dining but is also fully utilised by the school during curricular time.”

To further enhance protection from the elements while retaining airflow, glass wall enclosure panels were installed along with a mesh fabric facade panel affixed to the gable end of the canopy. The one piece fabric PVC membrane roof provides the space with perfect light transmission eliminating the need for additional lighting and ensures the canopy is easy to maintain with no joins to trap dirt or moisture. This design of canopy lends itself particularly well to fitting the available space, highlighted by the adjacent canopy sporting a tapered footprint.
